Yizkor Prayer

The souls of your dearly beloved whose blood was shed and lives cut down in the heart of their flourishing. – those souls are in the heights of Heaven together with other holy and pure souls that shine forth in Heaven, close to the Divine Presence. They yearn so much to perform good deeds in order to rise yet higher in Heaven but they cannot. However, you, the family members and friends are able to help them. By your learning Mishnayos and saying Kadish, by your performing good deeds in their merit you can help them.

We surely must make all efforts that their memory never be forgotten – and do them a true favor by learning and praying for their souls.

If you are unable to learn by yourselves, Talmud scholars can learn for you.

May G-d remember the soul of (X the son of Y) and the souls of all my relatives, my uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters, both from my father’s side and my mother’s side, whether they were executed, murdered, slaughtered, burned, drowned or suffocated sanctifying His Name in exchange for my giving charity (without a vow) for the remembrance of their souls. And as a reward for that may their souls be bound up in the bond of life with the souls of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Sara, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah, and with all the other righteous ones in Heaven and let us say Amen.

For a male:

O G-d who is full of compassion Who dwells on high – grant perfect rest by the shelter of Your Divine Presence in the exalted places among the holy and pure, who shine as the brightness of the firmament – to (X the son of Y) who has gone to his eternal home, in exchange for (X) donating charity for the remembrance of his soul.  Therefore may the Compassionate One conceal him under the shelter of His Divine Presence forever and bind his soul with the bond of life. G-d is his domain and may he rest in peace in his grave, and let us say Amen.

For a female:

O G-d who is full of compassion Who dwells on high – grant perfect rest by the shelter of Your Divine Presence in the exalted places among the holy and pure, who shine as the brightness of the firmament – to (X the daughter of Y) who has gone to her eternal home, in exchange for (X) donating charity for the remembrance of her soul.  Therefore may the Compassionate One conceal her under the shelter of His Divine Presence forever and bind her soul with the bond of life. G-d is her domain and may she rest in peace in her grave, and let us say Amen.
